I just installed slack about 5 mins before this post and installed it again and again but still get this problem, my pc reboots like normal and when i had redhat it would say lilo booting in texted then boot lilo and id select linux or windows right, but i just installed slack and it says li and thats it it doesnt do anything else. In the install everything went like a redhat or mandrake install it was easy and quick, i did the boot disk thing and installed lilo onto the recommend place but still nothing goes, to write this posted i had to install mandrake 10 the use its booter to boot windows.
Please help me i dont want to be stuck with windows and mandrake hates my hardware e.g. modem and graphics card, anyway i hate it lol.
Nope using a brand new hdd only like 6 mouths old its a seagate 80 gig 7200.7 ide drive, ill try installing it differnt ways now but still help me please im new to slackware and dont want to give up on it.
Im sure people would have had this problem before please help me out.
Try adding linear to your /etc/lilo.conf file in the global section
You can get change fix your file without reinstalling by loading the slackware install cd mounting the drive you installed slackware onto to a directory then chrooting to that directory
O.K. ive got the boot disk to run I installed the worng kernal i installed the kernal with ide hdd surrpost mines a scsi hdd is i though it was a ide drive, should i reinstall it or keep tying to get it to run im doing this command I should add when i install it, t says this"lilo cannot be installed use boot disk to boot slackware then confige lilo.config file".
linux mount root= /dev/hdaX(there x meaning 1 to 7)
ive also tryed. linux root= /dev/hdaX.
but still say the same error message kernel panic or something like that.

Hi i just delete the whole partition because when i try to boot slack on my /dev/hdc6 partion it trys to boot my old mandrake 10 how do I erase the linux partion completely so then i can install slack on a clean partition or if you have a better idea please share it with me.
cfdisk has an error and fdisk just doesnt seem to work my admin password for windows is xxxxxx and i know the pssword but when i type it into the windows xp mbr restore it says wroung password so can i boot the slack cd then issue a command to uninstall lilo ?
Uninstalling lilo wont stop it from booting mandrake instead of slackware
What is the error cfdisk gives you?
did you try cfdisk /dev/hdc, are you running it from the slackware install cd?
To clear the MBR you can use
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1
or if you have a windows 98 boot disk you can use fdisk /mbr
Ive installed it now and its going but i installed it to mbr and because it didnt add windows for me i installed the windows mbr over it so how do i get the lilo to daul boot so i can select linux or windows, at the moment i use the install disk to boot slack, thanks for your help.
Log into slack as root and run lilo which should write it into the master boot record. To add the windows partition to lilo edit your /etc/lilo.conf file and add to the bottom
other=/dev/hda1
table=/dev/hda
label=Windows
Assuming windows is on partition hda1. You will have to run lilo after making these changes
O.k. tryed lilo when logged in at root it says adding Nt adding linux Adding bla bla bla, but it doesnt work the windows boot still comes up and boots windows whats wroung ive looked at the lilo.conf and its booting from the /dev/hdc ive tryed hdc1 as well but they both dont work, should i reinstall slack and write it to the mbr and then add windows to it? Once ive got this sorted i want to upgrade my fluxbox is there a command to just upgrade it or do you have to unistall it then install the new one.

Lilo has to be installed to the MBR of the first harddrive which will be /dev/hda
To upgrade fluxbox you can use upgradepkg with a fluxbox slackware package.
