I just installed slack about 5 mins before this post and installed it again and again but still get this problem, my pc reboots like normal and when i had redhat it would say lilo booting in texted then boot lilo and id select linux or windows right, but i just installed slack and it says li and thats it it doesnt do anything else. In the install everything went like a redhat or mandrake install it was easy and quick, i did the boot disk thing and installed lilo onto the recommend place but still nothing goes, to write this posted i had to install mandrake 10 the use its booter to boot windows.

Please help me i dont want to be stuck with windows and mandrake hates my hardware e.g. modem and graphics card, anyway i hate it lol.

Let me guess, you're using an old HDD which is maybe around 3GB ? If so, you might want to try installing lilo with the -l option.

Try adding linear to your /etc/lilo.conf file in the global section

You can get change fix your file without reinstalling by loading the slackware install cd mounting the drive you installed slackware onto to a directory then chrooting to that directory

You have to specify the good kernel too at the boot prompt.

Use fdisk/cfdisk to delete and recreate the partition then restart your computer
Or just reformat it

Uninstalling lilo wont stop it from booting mandrake instead of slackware
What is the error cfdisk gives you?
did you try cfdisk /dev/hdc, are you running it from the slackware install cd?
To clear the MBR you can use
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1
or if you have a windows 98 boot disk you can use fdisk /mbr

Log into slack as root and run lilo which should write it into the master boot record. To add the windows partition to lilo edit your /etc/lilo.conf file and add to the bottom

other=/dev/hda1
table=/dev/hda
label=Windows

Assuming windows is on partition hda1. You will have to run lilo after making these changes

O.k. tryed lilo when logged in at root it says adding Nt adding linux Adding bla bla bla, but it doesnt work the windows boot still comes up and boots windows whats wroung ive looked at the lilo.conf and its booting from the /dev/hdc ive tryed hdc1 as well but they both dont work, should i reinstall slack and write it to the mbr and then add windows to it? Once ive got this sorted i want to upgrade my fluxbox is there a command to just upgrade it or do you have to unistall it then install the new one.

Lilo has to be installed to the MBR of the first harddrive which will be /dev/hda
To upgrade fluxbox you can use upgradepkg with a fluxbox slackware package.
