no sound on xmms but kde effects working

Hi all, the sound effects of kde 3.4.1 are working but when i run xmms in konsole and open an mp3 i get

Any ideas on fixing this?

This is probably because aRTS is running. You could either stop the KDE sound server, or try downloading the aRTS output plugin for XMMS.

Ok fixed it, for anyone else who might have this problem i had it on a laptop with ac97 sound, alsaconf found a sis soundcard, all i did was mute the 3d sound in alsamixer.

Thanks for the help anyway tho, need to learn all of this, looking into the aRTS output plugin for xmms.

How do i stop the KDE sound server?

xine and gxine are giving the same error, any other ideas?

Im using ALSA, should i be using something else instead?

Not sure what this means but when opening the apps (xine, xmms) the open window sample in KDE is played 2 times, sort of overlapping each other a bit, and the levels of all the samples in KDE seem to get louder in the middle of the sample sometimes.

Any help very appreciated.

Try adding snd_intel8x0m to /etc/hotplug/blacklist and reboot. It's the modem's sound module which is known to cause troubles with the sound card module snd_intel8x0
