Ta for the feedback Bluenoser but the most I can get is a part download. The first of the last two attempts 289kB and the last 2.4MB and then stopped. I haven't had problems downloading other non-related stuff in the last couple of days. Anyway, I have managed to get some sound running alsaconf but I think I am wasting my time with the internet thing. Perhaps this is too ambitious and maybe should give up until I know more. Out of interest (and it is hypothetical) would that driver do the business for my 2.4 something kernel when it is listed for the 2.6 something or other?

nVidia simply says they "Added support for 2.6.10 and 2.6.11 kernels" which doesn't mean the 2.6* is required as a minimum. If you want, I can email you the drivers, it's no problem

From the readme:

At the current time, the nForce drivers require a 2.4 or 2.6 series kernel running on 32- or 64-bit AMD CPUs.

Installed unified driver and run netconfig, now get -

'Some cards must be supplied with i/o addresses to use and can't be probed for safely. Configure later by editing /etc/rc.d/rc.modules or re-compiling kernel.'

Anybody any advice as to where I go from here. Sorry for being a nuisance.
