Network problem

Hi! I have network card 3com 3c595 100BaseTX[Vortex] which does't work well. Problem is in speed, becasue it works only on 10 Mbps. Does anybody know how to change speed to 100Mbps?
thanx

hi,

what other machines are you connecting to - do they all have 10/100 NICs?

does the card operate satisfactorilly under, say, windows?

hi,

if you do a 'lsmod', does the 3c59x module appear in the list of loaded modules?

if not, what happens if you try a 'modprobe 3c59x'?

Yes i compiled it as a module. You know, everything works on 10Mbps. Only problem is speed. 100Mbps. If anybody have any idea let me know.

I'm guessing that since you said "compiled it as a module" then that your running a 2.6.x kernel. Speaking of which i've read a thing here and there about that being fairly quirky oddly enough

If your in the 2.4.x series it should just work, period. Are you connected to a switch? It's possible that its not autodetecting settings correctly. If this could be a possibility then you can force it into 100 mode by adding the following to your modules.conf

options eth0 full_duplex=1

I'm not sure if you'll need to call the device by 'device name'; thatis eth0; or by driver name; thatis 3c59x.

Tried as stated above first though and it should force it into 100

this is a module parameter so it should be :
/sbin/modprobe 3c59x full_duplex=1
