network

hello

installed default kernel with v11 of slackware. I have the GUI running so that bit sort of wrks!

when i try to configure my network says that current version not recognised( or close t that). I have a nvidia 680i chipset on my mobo, this is problably the problem but i dont know where to find kernel support for it.

can i change the kernel to the 2.6 in slackware or is this a very silly idea!

hi

i did all those commands but dont have anything on hand to put the data onto as i cant transfer my files from my linux filesystem to windows!

the ifconfig just had the lo with no packets transfered

the modules installed were NTFS and soundsomethin!

lspci found lots of nvidia stuff but i havnt got it available to transfer. There was one thing it didnt recognise which was tagged as something to do with the ram. it found the network adapter

am i missing some kernel modules do you think?

there is no pen and paper around you ?

Code:
lspci found lots of nvidia stuff but i haven't got it available to transfer
those nvidia stuff are essential for tackling you network issue

the important bit in lspci is the Ethernet controller line

Hi

if you haven't ran
Code:
netconfig
in the past do it now as root

then as root again type
Code:
modprobe forcedeth

the forcedeth module will power up your network card

verify by typing
Code:
lsmod
that the module is loaded ( will appear on the list)

finally issue a
Code:
dhcpcd eth0
to assign new IP address and type
Code:
ifconfig
for a list of network interfaces.

ping www.google.com to test internet connectivity

well

Code:
man modprobe
to find what modprobe does
in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules as root add the following line to load the module at boot time
Code:
/sbin/modprobe forcedeth
.
