I had this same sound chip on my laptop, and I remember having to recompile the kernel to get support for it. If you are using the bare.i I don't know for sure if it is already a module, but one way of finding out what it would call the module is to run xconfig (if you have the kernel source) and look at the help for the ALI M5451. then you could try running modprobe and see if that module loads.

sorry I couldn't be much help, I'm still fairly new at this myself.

Volume problem: try upping the mixer. In KDE, the prog is called kmix, I don't know what Gnome uses, and I guess I'll never will.

DVD/Music CD playing problem: Don't mount the CD, just point your player to the proper mount point, eg. /mnt/dvdrom

Cheers!

2 things before giving you the link:

1. not a good idea to be short with a mod. Acid_kewpie made a very good point, a bad title often ends up in no one answering your question.

2. did you search for the driver? I did and came up with many pages. Here is my search:
http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr...river+download Note that I went via Google Linux.

Try this page - it is for Gentoo but should help with your problem. Otherwise, there are a number of hits on my Google search and one of them should give you the solution.

Good luck.
