Unhappy need help getting into slack 12.1 after dumb mistake!!

i installed kde 4.1.2 to play with, and thought i did everything right.
but i neglected to change back to run level 3.hence when i start slack,
it starts fine till it goes looking for the kdm theme, wich of course isnt
there.so it goes back the boot screen and im left with a blinking cursor.
so.....I used the install disk to mount dev/sda2 ,and this is where i get
lost! i used the pkgtool to remove kdm but that didnt work.
is there a way i can use the disk to access /etc/inittab and change the
runlevel?just for the record i used mount /dev/sda2 /mnt -t ext3 .
i tried a few things, but im not versed in recovery operations.
anyway could someone offer some help or advice?
i would greatly appreciate it!!
Rick

I would suggest that you run "chroot /mnt" to be able to use pkgtool after you boot with install disk.

Otherwise, if you just want to change run level in /etc/inittab and you used the mount point /mnt, I think you can just type
Code:
vi /mnt/etc/inittab
then modify the file and then reboot witout the install disk.

Even in run level 4, there's a login on ctrl-alt-F6 you can use to get in. You shouldn't need the install media to fix this.

Or you may even boot straight into runlevel 3, by passing "3" as a parameter to LILO. E.g. if the menu entry in LILO is "Linux" then hit Tab and write "Linux 3".
