"Release candidate" doesn't mean much nowadays. It had a real meaning in the old days where you had to be certain before engraving a nickel master to press CD-ROMs. Nowadays there's often an implicit moral contract between developers and users that if anything breaks it will quickly be fixed during -stable. So the development pace slows down when getting close to a release, to only speed up immediately after. In this case a release candidate essentially consists in making sure something huge wasn't overlooked, to avoid having to emit the first fix one hour after the release. Especially since it's well known that many users do not test the latest RCs if it requires them some effort to then jump to the final one. But users also have to be responsible, not rush on an immediate release for critical stuff, and wait a bit for the dust to settle. Typically if you're hosting websites for friends or family, you'd rather test a new distro on your laptop before the server, it will catch way more issues than a so-called "release candidate". As such I'm definitely much in favor for short RCs.

Yes, Yes, YES!

We need the faux release and once all jump to test it (how cunning a cheat ) we chase the bugs out and release several fixes in the early days up to weeks...

... then only the seasoned slackers (note the small letter) come in and reap all the benefits of Slackware's stellar track record

in short - this might well be it gentleman, the long drought is over, lock & load the champagne...

(just my 2c (as always))

P.S.
this is OFC all in jest, much much kudos the the team, either core and anyone in close or any orbit - it has been quite a ride and i certainly am looking forward for many many years and stellar releases to come

Nothing new in this process my friend:
1. Fedora user are beta-testers for Red Hat.
2. Arch users are beta-testers for all of us, thanks to them.

3. And Slackware users, according to this thread, seem to have a strong taste for single malt

slocate

slocate was replaced with mlocate. locate itself is a symlink to mlocate (in /usr/bin).
