If you want to revert back to pulse audio run the script "disable-pipewire.sh" (or pipewire-disable.sh)
Curious: why do I need to logout and login? I'm using i3 + raw X window without any display manager. Not sure what does logout mean here.

In your case, the Windows Manager is i3, then you do not use the "raw X window" as you claim, BUT a WM.

What @giomat probably means is that you need to restart your WM session to be executed again the XDG autostart files. And one of ways is to logout/login - specially when you use the runlevel 4.

This is needed because Slackware uses the XDG autostart to start the PipeWire daemons.

However, your WM of choice is not compliant with the XDG autostart.

Then, you should find a method to execute the XDG autostart files. Details for your particular case are there:

https://faq.i3wm.org/question/2155/h...s-in-i3.1.html

Another way (tested by myself) to solve this issue is to install and use fbautostart

https://slackbuilds.org/repository/1...p/fbautostart/

Even it's made for FluxBox, it can be configured for (and used with) any WM, on their startup scripts.
