I've installed slackware with a Sampo 17" monitor, that monitor had broken, and now I have an 15" NEC.
My sistem will autodetect the new monitor.
I'm asking because I don't broke this monitor 2 if it's using the setting from the previous one.

If you think that you damaged your first monitor by running Slackware, then it is probably because your xorg.conf did not specify the correct horizontal or vertical refresh ranges for your monitor. You will need to find out the horizontal and vertical ranges for your monitor (either from manufacturers documentation, perhaps on a plate on the monitor or else by googling)and then enter this in your xorg.conf prior to starting the X windows system.

I don't even think it's possible to break the monitor through settings that are off in xorg.conf. I'm pretty sure that if the monitor can't handle it or if it is an insane value for something it will default to a safer option ... or am I wrong ?

In fact I never really bothered to look up the real values (frequencies and whatever), and since it is a range, it picks the best one ... right ?
