I just installed Slack 13 and I went to build a new streamlined kernel I found that make xconfig failed with:
linux $ make xconfig
CHECK qt
*
* Unable to find the QT3 installation. Please make sure that
* the QT3 development package is correctly installed and
* either install pkg-config or set the QTDIR environment
* variable to the correct location.
*
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `scripts/kconfig/.tmp_qtcheck', needed by `scripts/kconfig/qconf.o'. Stop.
make: *** [xconfig] Error 2
I've had this problem as well after going to Slack 13. Xconfig is broken, but gconfig and menuconfig both work. Xconfig is looking for qt3, but Slack 13 by default installs qt4.
So a question... is the error in make or in the kernel (in my case 2.6.31)? If it's in the kernel, hopefully by 2.6.32 it will be fixed. Has anybody tried to have BOTH qt3 and qt4 installed?

In the meantime, I'm just using make gconfig.

if you look carefully you will see that qt4 and qt3 packages are made in such a way that they dont overlap or conflict. qt3 installs in /opt.
i have both pkg's installed, without a single issue.
After installing qt3-3.3.8b-x86_64-opt2, run "QTDIR=/opt/kde3/lib64/qt3 make xconfig".
Hello, A workaround which worked for me was to uninstall the latest QT3 (qt3-3.3.8b-93.1.i586.rpm) and instead install qt3 and qt3-devel from a previous version: qt3-devel-3.3.8b-87.11.i586.rpm and qt3-3.3.8b-87.11.i586.rpm
IMO there is a compatibility problem between the last qt3 version and xconfig.
Just follow slack advice and install qt3-3.3.8b-x86_64-opt2. I'm sure the package will drop two scripts inside /etc/profile.d to set all the variables we need.
