Lose wireless when computer hibernates

My old HP laptop with Slackware64 14.2 started to hibernate. I don't normally let that happen, because when it hibernates, I lose wireless. The wireless logo in the desktop gets a red X over it and when I right-click on it to get to some kind of menu for network options, there isn't much in the menu that looks like it will help. There are numerous Connection Details in Network Management Settings window that opens, but nothing that says anything like "On" or "Restart". In the terminal, I use
Code:
iwconfig
and it says

Quote:
lo no wireless extensions

wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSIDff/any
Mode:Managed AccessPoint: Not-associated Tx-Power=off
Retry short limit:7 RTS thrff Fragment thr: off
Power Management: off

eth0 no wireless extensions
I tried
Code:
sudo iwconfig wlan0 up
and it responded
Quote:
iwconfig: unknown command "up"
I also tried
Code:
sudo iwconfig wlan0 power on
Quote:
Errors for wireless requests "Set Power Management" (8B2c):
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not permitted
The only way I know to get wireless back on is to completely restart. Is there something else I can do that doesn't involve a reboot?

EDIT-- Actually, I restarted the computer twice and neither time had wireless. When I hover over the icon with my mouse, it says Wireless Disabled. I don't know how I did that.

Could it be rfkill blocked ? Try 'rfkill' in terminal.

It might otherwise be hardware disabled. Try with and without the Fn key to switch (might give it a shot before hibernation).

Last I would have a look at bios options.

For testing purposes, does the same thing happen when you suspend (sleep) the computer, as opposed to hibernate it?

Edit: When I tried to post this the first time, I got a 502 Bad Gateway error, so I tried again. Now there's two it.

I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't think to try the button for the hardware at first. To answer your question, frankbell, yes, it happens with using sleep. I can't get wireless back, even if I try the button for the hardware. I restarted, then with no wireless initially at boot, I press the button to toggle it on and that works. But I can't use the button after waking up from a sleep to get wireless back.

Thank you, Tonus, for the suggestion.
