Unhappy Login help?

First ever install of Slackware 9.1 - it boots, but asks for a login, seems to accept anything, but then wants a password.
I don't remember giving a password other than root, and it won't accept that one.
Is there a way around this?

type root for the username and then if you didn't enter a password just leave it blank and hit enter.

WAIT, NO! You can still save it.

You will need to use the slack rescue CD though. anyway . . .
1. Put the CD in the drive and set the BIOS to boot CD first.

2. Do this:
mkdir /mnt/hd
mount /dev/*your hd* /mnt/hd
chroot /mnt/hd
vi /etc/shadow
*remove the encrypted password for root*
reboot
*remove cd*

3. When you get the login you should be able to get in with no password, just hit enter or return when it asks.

-Hope this helps.

Too late.
It's fixed now, and looks OK. Took 5 installs, cuz I don't know what I'm doing, and only 1.2gb hard drive.
Your method wouldn't have worked anyway, I don't know how to get into BIOS on that ancient computer,
and it won't boot from a cd.
Thanks for your advice - I'll save it for the future.

It has cd reader, just wouldn't boot from it.
I made the three install floppies, then it would install the rest from cd.
