linuxdoc-tools in -current - .la files removed?

What was the rationale for removing the .la files in linuxdoc-tools in -current? I just tried to build the latest version of Gnucash and it errored out when it couldn't find the libosp.la file.

Never mind, I found the culprit. I needed to rebuild libofx against the new .la-less linuxdoc-tools and gnucash built fine. (Gnucash 2.6.17 just hit the servers this weekend!)
I'm still curious as to why the .la files were removed.

SDL2 also has its .la files stripped. It makes it impossible to build the SDL2 test programs, including the one you use to generate gamepad mappings.
