Unhappy linux 2.6.3 - touchpad and mouse probs

hi...
I've just compiled 2.6.3 on my laptop...
now I can't use my touchpad to click anymore...I have to use the buttons...
also, my mouse (logitech, optical, imps/2) doesn't work anymore...tried every possible /dev entry without any luck (support for USB / hid /busmouse .... is compiled in)
has anyone has similar problems or knows how to solve this ?
regards

XF86Config entry for touchpad and mouse:
Code:
#touchpad
 Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse2"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
 EndSection

#mouse
Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
relevant bootmessages:
Code:
Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1
 Firmware: 5.6

You need to get the Synaptics driver for Xfree86:
http://www.madpenguin.org/Article887.html
That's an easy to follow HOWTO doc that I used to get mine working.
It also supports cool feature of using two fingers at once (single tap) to do a middle mouse button, and
three fingers at once (single tap) to do a right mouse button.
