I'm assuming you installed slak on another partition than XP is on?
In that case:
I have no idea why lilo installed itself automatically but if you don't want it, boot from a windows bootdisk (preferably win98) and type 'fdisk /mbr'.
This command causes fdisk to overwrite the Master Boot Record, thus destroying lilo. And since the boot-process is unable to read linux-partitions your computer will boot into XP automatically. WARNING: POSSIBLY UNSAFE!!
The other way around is to actually use lilo to boot XP.
Adding this to the /etc/lilo.conf file will enable you to start XP with lilo:
I use the "jed" editor, so:
jed /etc/lilo.conf
Scroll down to the place where your linux root partition is, it should look something like this:
root = /dev/hda1
label = linux
read-only
All you need to do now is to copy that text, paste it below and change the /dev/hda1 option to whatever partition XP houses and change the label to anything you want i.e Windows XP. Save the file, exit the editor and type, at the command prompt:
/sbin/lilo
This command re-installs lilo with the new options.
Good luck!
