Krb5 in slackware

I know theres no krb5 in slackware, but i put in a self built module of krb5 back in the days when i didnt know much about it. I know theres quite a few things that depend on it, so a few questions i would like to know:
What is the point of krb5 and why is it not in slackware?
Is there something else in slackware that i am not aware of?
If i was to remove krb5, would i lose any features like being able to use ftp:// in nautilus (using gnome) or konqueror (using kde)?

Any answers appreciated, thanks.

If you don't know why you need it, then you don't need it.
