kernel problem


i recompile new kernel on slack 9 .. after installling .. it show this problem

modprobe: Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.5.20/modules.dep (No such file or directory)


what's the answer for this matter ??

Did you make modules and make install_modules before make install, or something like that?

make modules
make modules_install

make install ..

Is this a typo or you really compiled 2.5.20?

Anyhow, did you run make dep before make bzImage?

Even 2.5.20 was still requiring it IIANM and 2.4.20 definitely does.

make dep
make bzImage

make modules
make modules_install
make install ..

this the commands i had used ..

did i need to compile 2.4.20 .. ??

I really hope you mean 2.4.20 and not 2.5.20 as 2.5.68 is the newest 2.5 kernel. However, be very careful with 2.5 kernels as they are beta kernels for the 2.6 series and are not stable releases.
