Hi.
Here is a quick overview before I explain my problem:
I am running Debian Sid. I installed it from a sarge net install disc, and upgraded to sid. By default, I had a debian 2.6.7-1-686 kernel. I decided to install the 2.6.8-1-686 kernel from debian, and I got a terrible problem when I rebooted to the new kernel:
/sbin/init: 424: cannot open dev/console; No such file
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
The strange problem is, I get the same exact error when I boot to the 2.6.7 kernel (which I kept as a fallback)
I didn't know what to do, so I just reinstalled debian. Again, I have the 2.6.7-1-686 kernel that works fine, then I went ahead and compiled my own kernel (2.6.8.1) and I got the very same error.
Is this problem fixable? I don't want to have to reinstall debian again
TIA
