maybe take a look at LFS ( Linux from Scratch ).

http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/

it's a great " howto " build your own system, and
shows how things hang together.
it's very informative.

Thanks. Just looked here:
Code:
--with-headers=/tools/include
This tells Glibc to compile itself against the headers recently installed to the tools directory, so that it knows exactly what features the kernel has and can optimize itself accordingly.
So if I want my glibc optimized for my 2.6.16 kernel, I should copy new headers into /usr/include and recompile glibc.

as i said it's not a simple thing to do, and i woudn't try it on
a system i need for work or home use.
also what do you expect from such an operation ?
things won't be faster or " better " in any way and it's
possible that other programs won't work anymore.
( i don't know, i never tried it )

also, if you read some more at LFS, you'll see that the kernel-headers
they use are not the full set that comes with the sources from kernel.org.
so just copying them from the source tree to the /usr/include dir.
is not the right thing to do imo.

if you still want to try, better make a second Slackware install on another
partition and try and see how it goes.
(....and maybe report the results here. it would be interesting anyway ).

Ok. I'm very grateful for your explanations. Will post the results when manage to do this because I'm going to build optimized for my system Slackware anyway. However, it may take long for you waiting for the results.
