do i need kernel source or headers

I am attempting to patch my wireless card to install kismet.
Below is my kernel information:

#uname -r
2.4.27-2-386

here is what i get when i try to install the new driver

#make
make -C /lib/modules/2.4.27-2-386/build SUBDIRS=/orinoco-0.13e modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.4.27-2-386/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [modules] Error 2

i do not have the build directory. Here is my question; do I need the kernel source or just headers? Thanks

Where is the build dir? the driver i'm trying to install is looking for a build dir under /lib, is this where i should install the headers? Or under /usr and create links?

The lernel always goes in /usr/src. Chances are good that if you use apt to get the kernel-headers, you will download the headers in a tar.bz2 format. Just go into /usr/src and unzip the headers if they are tarred up. I forget if they are tarred or not, but in any case, /usr/src is the kernel spot, and anything other than that will be accounted for in the installer of the other program.

Peace,
JimBass
