But slight, I do have that message.

mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
input: ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse on isa0060/serio1

Is there supposed to be an additional input: PS/2 line after this?

Nope.... your's is how it should be. I am not even getting the 2nd line where input recognizes the mouse.

I just tried 2.6.1 as well and the problem still exists.

tedcox, you are not the only one -- I am suffering the same problem with the 2.6 kernel. But what concerns me is that I have the exact same mouse as you. That would seem to be a pretty big co-incidence... but if you have any other PS/2 mice around it might help for you to see if there is some odd quirk with our cordless mice that doesn't allow it to work with 2.6 for some bizarre reason.

same here.
Just tried 2.6.1, and mouse is dead... but I remember I had some issues with mouse on this mainboard even with 2.4 (ecs k7s5a), but it helped to turn on usb for dos support in bios.
Didn't try to turn it _off_ for 2.6, yet.

Piaskowy I am going to kiss you.... big sloppy wet kisses, with lots of tongue.

I can't believe that is all it was. I think I was up to kernel compile # 2,636 w/ no luck, and that is all it was.

Well, there's the answer, turn off USB support for DOS in yer BIOS (if you're on a K7S5A).

Great! Happy for you and others, slight.
This should help all the others suffering the same problem, indeed.

I have just had the same problem, am about to try switching off USB Dos support, but I notice that you have the same modell mainboard as me. The reason I bring this up is because I have two of these boards, and both have the same intermittent fault, every now and again, the sec slave is not detected and the message appears

Sec Slave ATAPI Incompatable
Press F1 to resume

have you ever had this problem, I have tried contacting the manufacturer of the board, but no support, I've upgraded to the latest BIOS version.

mmm, well I didn't even get to test as disabling USB DOS support, didn't let me use grub with my usb keyboard. I would buy a new one, but it's black and silver and nice....

ps2 mouse

If the ps/2 mouse is supposed to be loaded as a module, then it may be not happening. It is not necessarily auto-detected. I tried
modprobe psmouse
That was successful - giving console access immediately.
Subsequently I have started X, and that works too.

Ok, cool. Let's try it later in my own slack.
BTW, can you tell me what to put on my XF86config?
Again, my mouse is a serial wheel mouse.

Thanks.
