Kernel 2.6.0 - APM and APCI problem

Before, with 2.4.22 kernel I had this problem : after about 20 minutes of use, my X server would freeze (so I had to reset), also the poweroff command would not turn off my comp.
I fixed those problems by adding "modprobe apm" to my rc.modules. In the kernel config, I had power management on (*), ACPI turned off (), and APM as a module (M).

Now, with 2.6.0, power managent is on and ACPI is on (*) with a lot of options, and APM is off. Poweroff command works, but X server freezes after 20 mins.

So, I disabled ACPI and said yes (*) to APM. The result is poweroff doesn't work anymore. Then I enabled APM as a module (M), but when I try to modprobe apm I get the error message:

~# modprobe apm
FATAL: Error inserting apm (/lib/modules/2.6.0/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/apm.ko): No such device

I have no idea what to do next, please tell me any ideas that you might have, at least to keep the X server from crashing.

I'm using ASUS P4P800 mother board, witch supports APM and ACPI.

I added the line append="apm=power-off" in my lilo.conf and now when I use halt or poweroff it reboots the system.

//RANT
They should have kept the old apm module usable, it was working so well in 2.4.22, no X server hangs and no half-shutdowns, now a lot of people who were using modprobe apm have problems.
