kernel 2.4.31 out!

Today kernel 2.4.31 came out!! I'm upgrading right now-the 2.6.x kernels don't play nice with my '99 laptop.

In my opinion 2.6 kernels perform good even on old hardware. i didn't know however that the 2.4.x series are still developed...

Fixes are still going in, but looking at the change logs this one is a very minor change. Mainly mtrr and JFS

The changelog didn't say anything about security fixes-are security holes fixed in every kernel build, or is up to the iptables to plug security holes?

Kernel updates usually include security fixes, mainly of the buffer overflow and improper memory handling types. As the kernel includes the drivers, errors here cause security holes before data even gets to Iptables.
