Unhappy kde 4.1.2,no kmix and nothing to untar pkgs.?????

i installed kde 4.1.2,per instructions.and it works pretty well.
the problem is i have no volume control, kmix.
and i dont have anything to open pkgs.ive searched the web and have only
found debian pkgs or rpms for kmix.but nothing to untar pkgs.
does anyone know where i can find an archiving tool so i can open pkgs?
also are there sources for kmix or any alternatives?
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I booted up my -current install running KDE 4.1.2
kmix and ark are both still included.
(okular document viewer replaced kpdf)

Use the new search feature.
If you don't have these, maybe you missed installing some packages.
