I hope you can help me please. I am searching for answers for my developers who don't have the time at the moment ...
We are currently running Slackware ver. 8.0.0, with kernel 2.2.19 and are having problems getting Java to run properly. Can anyone please tell me which versions of Java have been installed and tested on this version of Slackware ? I have searched the slackware.com site and can't find any references to Java there ...
We currently have installed Sun Java j2 SDK 1.3.1_07.
This is an urgent issue as it is impacting on our delivery deadline, so please respond as fast as you can ...
Well first off, what are you trying to do with Java ? Is it installing or giving any type of errors ? More details get better answers.
And please don't ask members to respond fast, first its rude and inconsiderate and second this is a free site where members come out of their own free time to help others, we cannot gaurantee an answer to your questions, it could be 10 minutes, several days or never before someone has an answer to your question.
ok - first off my apologies for the urgent response issue - I am just in a bit of a bind with this right now, and searching for answers on behalf of my developers - please accept my apologies - I understand the nature of the forum now...
Second, what we are trying to do is develop a java chat server that has image streams associated with each user - please see my developers comments below and if you can help, it would be much appreciated :
Developers comments :
It seems that the java runtime environment is crashing with
a Segmentation fault as soon as a second user tries to
connect to the server.
This is definately NOT happening on my box, and I seem to remember having the same problems running Java on Slackware a few years ago. In fact, it was the very reason that I changed over to SuSE at the time, I just couldn't get a stable Java environment on Slack.
Could we please do the following:
- Could we re-install the Blackdown version, as was the
case when we started. The crashes that we were getting
were related to there being no X server running, and not
the Java VM.
- Leave the existing java version, I can always switch
between the two.
- Find out what the recommended Java runtime is on
Slackware. There are basically 3 options: Blackdown, IBM,
or Sun.
- Please ensure that the kernel version and Slackware
version is taken into account here.
Otherwise, my testing has all passed, I can get 5 streams connected, with 100% stability at home.
Well from my understanding if yours is working at home and is stable, sounds like this is in the hands of your developers. This type of question seems as if its more of an in house type problem which would be hard for any of us or at least me to determine why its failing at all.
I really couldn't tell you how to fix the problem at this point.
