Is there a reason why i can't connect to AOL OR Yahoo?


I've tried kopete and gaim... all it does it sit there and try to connect.... how can i fix this? I'm using the latest versions of both... is there anything i need to configure? I can connect fine to the internet

yahoo and aim change their conection things all the time. update kopete and gaim and see if it makes a difference...

i just downloaded the latest release of gaim and kopete last night and installed it

I've used gaim, never had a problem connecting to it.
I also use the aol , linux version of aim check it out here:

p.s. yahoo has a linux version also

ok i dont want to use aol version it sucks and so does yahoo, i would like to get kopete to work, thanks

Are you using a fierwall . Cuz i jus connected to aol server wiff no problem bout 2 minutes ago

First your gonna need to know what firewall ur router has so you can
open the right port to aol.

so for my modem do i have to open port 5190? I have this connected to my modem, would it conflict with my ports?

I have four options for my Firewall within my modem, i have:
High
Medium
Low
Basic, right now i put it on Basic... and i have my port forwarded 5190 on my ip address... i don't know what else to do

is this even considered a router??? http://www.dlink.com/products/?model=DSS-8%2B
cause i have my comp going to the dlink product, then that going to my modem

yeah well i fixed the problem, all i did was had to update the drivers to my dsl modem, thanks though guys for the help/input
