The base compiz package is include with Slackware but you need to install the other companion packages to really make compiz useable. Get them over at www.slackbuilds.org

Install them in this order...
1. compiz-bcop
2. protobuf (optional but recommended)
3. libcompizconfig
4. compizconfig-python
5. compizconfig-backend-kconfig4 (optional)
6. ccsm
7. compiz-plugins-main
8. compiz-plugins-extra (optional)
9. compiz-plugins-unsupported (optional)
10. emerald (optional)
11. emerald-themes (optional)
12. fusion-icon (optional)

alright. got it working. couple of questions. in xfce4 do i need "gnome compatibility" checked in ccsm?

is there a way to get opacity of windows like in bespin and qt-curve under kde where the window is transparent but not the view port?

thanks

Hi,

I followed the install order, but after
1. compiz-bcop
2. protobuf
built and installed, during the building of the package "libcompizconfig", I get an error:

configure: error: Package requirements ("compiz") were not met:

No package 'compiz' found

What does it mean? I don't find this package "compiz" in Slackbuilds.org. What can I resolve it?

Thanks for the answer.

aszabo, Are you running Slackware current? I did a "whereis compiz" and it shows up in /usr/bin and then did a "ldd compiz" and it's not linked to libcompizconfig so my guess is you're not using slackware current. Unless you didn't do a full install of slackware from the DVD/CD. Compiz is installed by default (full install). The compiz-xx.txz file is under SlackDVD/slackware/x. If you run "whereis compiz" from the command line and nothing shows up, that could be the problem.

... that's kinda' all i can think of right now. Sorry not more helpful.
