Installing CIPE (Linux v.2.6.x)

Does anyone have experience of compiling and
installing CIPE (VPN) with a recent 2.6 series
kernel? I would appreciate some help...

I'm trying to compile cipex v.1.6.0-0.50 under
Linux 2.6.18. This is a clean installation but
I am getting a succession of compile errors
(relating to includes -- I think).

I suceeded setting up CIPE 1.5.4 with the 2.4.x kernels,
but for some reason it seems to be more difficult
with the 2.6 series..

Thanks for your help.

Personally I don't know CIPEX and CIPE. Could you give us some background or provide the URL of the projects.

Maybe you could post some of your compile errors to give us a clue about the errors.

CIPEX may have dependencies that you don't have with CIPE.

What distro are you using ? (Slackware 11.0 ???)

CIPE stands for Crypto IP Encapsulation. It works by
tunneling IP packets in encrypted UDP packets. It is
particularly useful for tunneling through firewalls
See

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux
/RHL-9-Manual/security-guide/s1-vpn-cipe.html

The homepage is at
http://sites.inka.de/bigred/devel/cipe.html

CIPEX carries out data compression for CIPE
making it more efficient. See
http://www.hsx.dds.nl/software/cipex...ipexpatch.html

I use CIPE in conjunction with nxclient/nxserver/freenx

Some people consider that CIPE has been supplanted
by another utility called OpenVPN which is under
active development.

I should state that I have now resolved my problem.
People considering using CIPE with the 2.6 series
kernels should check out the CIPEX homepage above.

(Distro: Slack 11.0, Kernel: 2.6.18)
