Info about hotplug and udev

Hi, i have slackware 10.2 using 2.4.31 kernel, i've heard disabling hotplug and using udev instead increases the boot time, in my system the only thing that takes time during boot is hotplug,
I've tried making it un-executable but my router and flash drive doesn't get detected if i do that.

>What i want to know is, is hotplug and udev are for the same purpose ?

>If so how can i use udev instead of hotplug, do i have to edit any script?

You can use the official 2.6 kernel packages to upgrade to 2.6 kernel. udev requires a 2.6 kernel.

By the way, you can reduce the boot time a bit by skipping the ldconfig part also.
