udev, hotplug and kernel

SUSE 10.0 comes with kernel 2.6.13 and udev 068

I compiled kernel 2.6.15.4 using the config file from suse's kernel 2.6.13
It's working fine but I lost the graphical boot splash and I get text mode till X and kdm start ( but KDM and x start correctly everytime).

Now, will kernel 2.6.16 compile with udev 068 or will I have tp upgrade to udev 085?

the docs say udev >71 for 2.6.15
you got that one beat
nothing about udev in 2.6.16 release notes
no harm in trying just don't toss out the 2.6.15

sometimes i wish they could include all this junk in the kernel itself if they are going to keep messing with the way it works.

?????.
I'd have thought the less that is being "messed with" in the kernel the better. Preferable to roll back one userspace tool if it's bad, rather than rolling back a kernel. So long as they keep the interface(s) consistent.
