I upgraded some pkgs on slackware 12.2 & after rebooting or logging out I found I no longer seem to be using KDM but seem to now be using XDM & have searched the net but the tutorials given dont seem to match any files I have on slackware I can change , unless I am looking in wrong place.
Can anyone tell me how to cause Slackware to load KDM & where to edit the file etc.
Thanks AnyOne
If KDM does not start, but XDM does, then this is an indication that you removed (parts of) KDE from your computer. In runlevel 4 KDM will be preferred over XDM if it is present.
What packages did you upgrade? Where did you get these packages?
Thanks alien Bob ,
I added Zenwalks Repo,s To my Slapt-get menu & also used Zendo as I noticed they seem to have additional pkgs & might of downloaded their KDE pkgs & ended up with some of Zenwalks settings it seems.
AnyWay after learning from that mistake I found by getting into Kcontrols KDM theme Manager which I added earlier lucky,
that I had to re click the Enable KDM themes again & got KDM back working, but now I can't get KDM to use some of my user settings I added in the Kcontrols login Manager I have set , Like Logging in without a passwd etc.
Not sure yet which file I need to fix that with.
I hope KDE hasn't stopped working with KDE3.10 etc yet as I am hoping I can get another upgrade in to hopefully fix some of these problems otherwise I may need to downgrade back, as I really cant come to terms yet with KDE4 no matter how much they have improved it.
I hopefully wont be using Zenwalk to upgrade KDE again it seems.
Thanks
If you used Zenwalk repository to upgrade your Slackware, then in my opinion you are now running Zenwalk. Please try and get help in the Zenwalk forum, they should be able to help you.
Zenwalk is not Slackware.
Point slapt-get at an official slackware mirror (or better still (imo) use slackpkg since it *is* supported) and upgrade the kde packages.
That ought to fix that problem. But since you have probably many other zen packages now, it would be better to do a upgrade-all (or whatever the equivalent is in slapt-get)
