I failed with my printer...

Man...I couldn't do it. I know, I know, I have searched the forums and saw a lot of configuring printers stuff. But I am still not being able to make it...I am trying for about 5 hours now.

Ok, I have a local printer that is directly connected to my computer, Canon BJC-210. I don't even know what port is it (linux nb), it is in 'lpt1' under Windows what I suppose is /dev/lp0. I am trying to use CUPS what seems is the best. I am going through url http://localhost:631 and I select administration tasks ---> add printer.

Name: Canon
Location: /dev/lp0
Description: Uhhhhhh

But now, what should I do with this device thing? I usually choose Internet Printing Protocol (http) but now they ask me for "device URI" and I don't know what to put.

Sorry for bothering you I know this is highly discussed in forums, but know it I SEARCHED. Searched in this forum, in linuxprinting.org, in the cups homepage, etc. I don't know what to do...could someone help me please?

Thanks for the attention.

Have a look at /etc/cups directory, especially in printers.conf which has Device URI examples

Hello! Well I have found a way to configure but now have other problems. Always when I send it to print anything, my printer prints many symbols thing but not what it was meant to print. It prints pages starting with:

%!PS-Adobe-3.0
%%Creator: Gnome Print Version 2.6.1
%%CreationDate: D:20041214192232

and many other arguments...what can be going wrong?

Thanks!

When I try:

/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p printer -E -v device -m ppd ENTER

(of course I put my printer in the place of printer, device in the place of device, etc.)

it gives the same error:

client-error-not-authorized

That's becoming quite annoying to me...if someone could help me, please...
