The Mozilla version that comes with Slackware does not show text in some frames either. I can't user Firefox or Mozilla from Slackware. I am stuck with Netscape.
I think the version of Netscape in Slackware does not support xft. So run mkfontscale and mkfontdir under your TT fonts dir, and add the fonts path to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Then select your fonts from Netscape's fonts-selection-window, then those fonts may take effect.
Thanks for the help. The commands don't work, however:
root@Linux:/usr/share/fonts# mkfontdir
bash: mkfontdir: command not found
root@Linux:/usr/share/fonts# mkfontscale
bash: mkfontscale: command not found
root@Linux:/usr/share/fonts#
