How to lan-connect two slackware boxes?

Hi.

Just finished installing slackware 13.37 64 bit on two boxes which are connected to the modem. I ran netconfig to enable dhcpd and the two boxes are on the internet working.

Now, what I don't understand is how should I access(r/w) files from one another.?!!

Regards...

You can use samba to enable file sharing or use NFS for that

Hmmm, I just started a similar thread.

Maybe the mods could merge them.

If you want only to connect the two Slackware systems then NFS is the fastest and simplest method. Create an /etc/exports file on both systems and ensure the /etc/rc.d/rc.nfsd and rc.rpc scripts are executable.

If you want to add Windows systems then you'll need Samba.

Unless your "modem" has a built-in switch and NAT (Network Address Translation) abilities, if you want both systems to have concurrent access to the internet you likely will want to invest in a basic home-based router or use one system as a gateway with the second system accessing the internet through the first system.
