How to install gdm on Slackware 10.2?

Hi,

I have an old computer with a small hard disk. I installed slackware without kde and gnome and am happy with it. The only annoyance is the xdm login program.
Because of the features (shutdown menu etc) I'd like to install gdm or kdm. So far I installed kdm but because of the dependencies of kdm I had to install a basic kde system, qt etc and that eats up a lot of hard disk space.

Is it possible to install gdm easily or does it have similar dependencies like kdm that I end up installing gnome just to have gdm?
Or are there possibilities to enable a shutdown menu in xdm?

I am using Slackware 10.2.

Thanks, Sö

AFAIK you cant do gdm in slack 10.2. GDM depends on GNOME which Slack removed support for.

You could try SLiM. It might do everything you need and the requirements are light.

Try wdm. It has less dependencies than slim which is based on the fox libs. Actually, slim is a port of wdm into fox libs. wdm itself incorporate the external login from login.app

There's also sources on the site if you'll look under download/Sources/GUIcomponents

As I understand it gdm and kdm were "forks" of xdm. You can add a shutdown button to xdm but it takes some editing. The time spent will get you your shutdown button without the bloat of adding the base gnome libs or kdebase.
