How to get rid of quotes in bash?


Every time I open a console window I get this random quote from someone and then I get my prompt. How do I disable this quote and what file is it comming from?

you mean fortune?
run fortune at the prompt, and see if thats it.
look for it in your /etc/profile

just uninstall the bsd games package. Unless you play those old text games...

I found that it was fortune and my profile has a loop that includes additional shell scripts when bash starts and one of whihc is one for fortune. I am currently trying to prevent the inclusion of that script. Thanks for the help.

To kill the fortune stuff...

as root

cd /etc/profile.d

chmod -444 bsd*

That will kill it.
