Help installing Firefox 1.5.0.7...

Hi, I need help with Firefox...

Slackware 10.2
KDE

I downloaded "firefox-1.5.0.7-i686-1kjz.tgz" from Linux Packages, copied it to: /usr/local/src/ and then ran INSTALLPKG, it finished without giving any errors.

But when I go to: /usr/share/applications/ and click on it I get the bouncing Firefox icon for about 10 seconds, can see the hard drive light flickering, then the bouncing icon goes away and nothing happens.

The original Mozilla "Mozilla" browser and Mozilla's Thunderbird icons both work fine from this same folder.

What is wrong?

I wonder if that package isn't broken, it contains no /usr/bin/firefox. Try the same version from stock Slackware (eg. from here).

Why don't you just download it from Mozilla site and unpack it in , let's say, /opt, create a symbolic link to it in /usr/bin and voila...you've just installed firefox

Pat released an official package for Firefox 1.5.0.7. Snag it from here.

*Edit* Oof! I guess I should have read uselpa's message more carefully. He suggested the same thing.

For everyone that replied, thank you!

There -is- a Firefox icon in /usr/bin/ but all it has is the name the icon itself is otherwise invisible.

Uselpa, the package from LinuxPackages does appear to be broken, the link you gave me worked on the first try!

Thanks again everyone.
