Having problems connecting to my network

Lately I've been playing with vectorlinux and when i configure my network it automatically detects my ethernet card and i set it up and it works great. On my Slackware box i set up up the same way in the netconfig but it doesn't connect. I'm not sure what to do.

is the card detected properly and the module loaded for it?

yeah see it doesnt say anything about detection or loading a module for it.

did you try 'ifconfig ethX up' where 'X' is the number of your NIC.. if you have 1 NIC itll be 0. whats the output of that?

thank you that did the trick
