Problems connecting to network on startup

I just recently installed Mandrake 10.1. When I bootup the network is down everytime which means I can't access the internet. I have to go through the process of creating a new network connection every time. Once I do this I can surf the net no problem. Now, if I decide to log out. I have to disconnect eth0, otherwise the system hangs when it's trying to log out and I have to reset the computer manually.

There's a "start at boot" checkbox in the MCC under Network & Internet/Manage connections - this'll bring up the relevant interface automatically at boot.
