Having issues after compiling my kernel in Slackware 12.0???

Okay, heres how it goes....
I have my desktop setup as such,
I have 2 hard drives, the first one:
Code:
*/dev/hda 20gb which contains WinXP
...and the second one:
Code:
*/dev/hdb 80gb which contains Slackware-12.0
>/dev/hdb1 / (root)
>/dev/hdb2 /swap
>/dev/hdb3 /home
I have lilo setup in the MBR area of the first HDD (/dev/hda), which is how I've alway's installed linux on this PC. However, ever since I installed Slackware-12.0 I've been getting these warning messages after I'm done compiling my kernel...
Code:
 Warning: LBA32 addressing assumed
/proc/misc: No entry for device-mapper found
Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel?
Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver.
Warning: The boot sector and map file are on different disks.
Added Slackware *
Added WinXP
2 warnings were issued.
...is anyone else having this sort of issue and if so, has anyone been able to track down a solution????

yup, had both of those...

I think this one is because you do not have under

# Multi-device support (RAID and LVM)

this option set:
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_DM=m

Quote:
Warning: The boot sector and map file are on different disks.
I think this one is because you have/had the boot disk set in the bios different to where your lilo boot sector is (at the time you ran lilo)
So its not critical, but to get rid of the warning set the bios to boot from the disk your lilo boot sector resides on.

I figured it would be something like that. I had originally set that in the kernel as a module. But then I recompiled my kernel with it built in and now whenever I run /sbin/lilo it doesn't show the device-mapper warning that it did before. On top of that, changing this also took care of my bootsplash not showing up on the screen. Everything else seemed to work fine, font style and size etc..etc.., but no image ....

Until of course, I made the little Device Mapper change in the kernel .

Thanx again for your suggestion....

P.S. This is by far my favorite version of Slackware to date

just put /sbin/modprobe dm-mod in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
that will solve the problem

#to fix your other error message add a
lba32
#line at the top of your lilo.conf
