Hardware Question Before Install

I purchased one of these Lenovo Desktops as it was a low price and the pc is meant for light work.

Before I install Slackware I have a question. I got the PC yesterday and am testing it out and found the oddest thing. If the PC is restarted it opens the BIOS and then just loops until you do a hard stop.

If, however, one does a full stop and start from a totally off state, it boots straight to O/S (windows for now but it is short lived). The PC seems to run just fine and no other signs of oddities.

Has anyone seen this? I googled but find instances where it always boots to BIOS and not what mine is doing with just boot to BIOS on restart. There are so many experts in this forum, just had to ask.

Thanks,
John

My IBM M58 Desktop has a lot of bios options also.
More than I'll ever use.

Retarted how? From Windows 8.1 start menu?
Because that is strange behaviour.

Yep, just hit restart from the windows menu and it restarts and goes straight to BIOS. If I shutdown from the menu it turns back on and straight to OS. I wanted to test it as it is new before I wiped it What bits I have found online indicates windows install issues. I am going to try command line commands and see if it restarts differently...out of curiosity.

I rarely do restarts when I have Linux anyway so most likely Slackware will be on it before the day is through ...

[EDIT] I solved it. It was the Alienware gaming keyboard I have had for a few years. It has 2 USB connections. I swapped it for the keyboard they shipped with it and all is well. Maybe the extra USB was playing with its "head". Still weird because it booted from full stop with no issue, only had problems on a restart loop. Oh well, it is fixed, works and Slackware ready

Slackware coming next Goodbye Cortana, go "learn" about someone else
