I often hear some weird sound on my harddrive, when it was not crushed yet, It hears like when some body else is on my system n send some command to the harddrive, it is kinda creck creck, like the read head mechanic is moved unorderly ..
But yesterday morning I saw alot of errors on the screen saying error reading from the harddrive. After a hard reboot the bios can not detect th HD any more, well only once but then it failed also to read from it. I had got once such problem also in the past, but after I tried to screw it out n reinstalled it then it worked again. Now I got it again, am just worrieng whether am able to get the whole actual data out of it.
So the question is whether any one had experience with crushed harddrive ? I had also another 60gb maxtor lying around (was also undetected by bios). In my opinion it should be a register device on the harddrive which stores and gave the harddidk geometry information to bios during the boot-up .. So I think that would be a good place to start for troubleshooting ..
Any idea ?
Yes it did make some creek, creeeek, ,creek creek sound several times in da past. Looked like hardware crsuh. Or some one had performed some real hardware commands on da disk, hdparam or somewut. Some ppl did frequently visited my side, n I believe my system was installed some back door thingie..
Only I can't figure it out yet, it is kinda hard to detect backdoor, it seemed so that my activity was also recorded, that intruder know wut every task I did (every command seemed to be recorded somewhere).
There are such hacker/cracker out there .., such always followed the latest vulnerability of internet software, paid maybe by any defence institution the like for .. N they spend their free time on unix forums ??
Even such institution was also ever cracked, I heard about that that they have than jailed the cracker for something 15 years for the damages made to their system. Won't it be logical if such institution will hire such professional hacker then ?
But not only, professional cracker do have some ethic ? Look like also such chicky micky who r responsible for their ecom site, n had learned from previous attack on their system r doing some exploit to my system...
Dunno, back from the gossip, it might also be a random hardware failure maybe caused by instability of the power supply, I don't use any UPS or power stabilizer and my location is about less than half KM from the power plan for the mega city with over 8 miliion citizen. And their power stability quality is questionaery ..
But wut real is that the HD signature is not detected by BIOS during boot-up. Haven't tried to screw it out n try installing to another channell with other cable yet .. But I just interested on whether someone know about the hd recovery, in case of non detectable HD ?
As said I supposed if it is no mechanical defect on the HD, it should be a hardware register on the disk which stored the harddisk signature/geometry parameter. And am thinking of some trial whether I can make do something with that mentioned register(possibly) ?
Oh yeah the HD is a WDC300BB-00AVA1: LBA: 558633344, ATA2 30GB
The other Maxtor 60GB one is a 96147H8 CHS:16383/16/63, LBA: 117347328. It was non detectable after a CPU-crushed, possibly caused by the power supply, but I haven't tried it extensively on another system ..
Ok,I've give the bios to auto detect the parameter, but force it to go in LBA mode, n it detects the HD.
But it seemed to be nothing there, so I have to boot with a diskett. But I got VFS: Panics and many of errors like it was b4 I performed a cool hardboot. Some read error ... reiserfs, like the data is deleted ..
Grrrrrrrrrr,
The bios detected the harddisk signature only, but doens't detect the geometry of the HD. I booted witf the slackDiskettes, n on da prompt:
fdisk /dev/hda => can not find any HDs ..
cfdisk /dev/hda gave fatal error, can not read disk.
N I changed the HD with an old 4.3 GB HD, bios can detect also the signature but can not read it. The same problem. Wut is wrong witf them ?
Was it the bios ? I hate to reflash the bios, last time I've reflashed a bios in another older board n it can not boot afterward, n I can do nothing with da old board till now..
The whole slack current tree is there, I can't install anything now. The micky mouse damaged my system need a lection. I ll hang it for the cats. Last time I hanged one, the next day I see there only the head of da rate is still hanging ..
dirstyGuy,
If you come from an English-speaking nation, please type in english. Words like "chrusd" and "witf" do not clearly come across to everyone, even those of us who speak English natively.
have you tried setting your primary/slave settings different on the drive, or changing the ide channel it is hooked to.
as in put it as the only drive on a cable in primary, then in slave, then set the hd each way.. it doesn't sound right, but i've bad cables/settings cause similar problems..
Yeah it sound unlogical but I will try it, I've to free the desk first for da experiment, n now am downloading the current source 1.3 gb excluded those /pasture,/testing,/source.. on to laptop, I ll install it back to desktop later through nfs, but it still can not read the hd at all as I tried yesterday to install 9.0 on it.
Yeah gonna try to randomize them, but those sound I heard from the HD as it creeks hear like the read head isstucked with somewut, than it will be stoped n continue again, but the HD continue to work further. The last time I heard it also at night, it worked also orderly afterward. I just change the passwords of all accounts, closed port 22 for ssh. The next morning I saw many 2x erros of trial to access HDs..
I know wut u meant. it has once recognized the WDC300bb on a secondary channel, I hooked it on primary channel (single master), previously it has not detected even the signature at all. The CDRW is hooked on 2nd-channel as slave.

I ll need some luck..
Anyone care to it give a shot at translating this?
