As root, edit /etc/inittab and change the line id:3:initdefault: to id:4:initdefault:
On your next reboot, you should be at the graphical login. To immediatly go into grapical mode, as root do:
Code:
root@box:# telinit 4; logout

Check out Shilo's site: www.shilo.is-a-geek.com/slack and go to the 'Going Graphical' link.

D'oh! That'll teach me to read LQ while eating tasty chinese takeout.
I used the instructions in the ArchLinux Wiki http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Graphical_Lilo sucessfully (omitting the command for pacman, obviously). Seem pretty much the same as Shilo's instructions.

Any different than what?
If you compile it correctly, it is a little faster.

Kernel version shouldn't affect your lilo boot splash if that's what you mean
