Gnome has no sound as I just discovered!

The sound file for this event does not exist.
You may want to install the gnome-audio package
for a set of default sounds.

You could check to see if gnome-audio is installed.

Code:
ls /var/log/packages/ |grep "gnome-audio"
You can download it here if you don't have it.

http://slackware.com/pb/download.php...2.0.0-noarch-1

You can check to see if sound is working by: playing mp3 files, playing movies, playing DVDs, playing CDs, etc.

You can check that you have the sound server enabled:

Applications -> Desktop Preferences -> Sound (Check both boxes under "General")

You can make sure that your volume is turned up and unmuted

Applications -> Multimedia -> Volume Control

slovak@slovak:~$ ls /var/log/packages/ |grep "gnome-audio"
gnome-audio-2.0.0-noarch-1

Sound server is enabled, volume control never loads for me, ever, whether KDE or Gnome is being used. The little thinking symbol just spins and spins but it never loads.

If the Volume Control isn't working in Gnome, open up a terminal in Gnome and type:
Code:
gnome-volume-control
The output should give you a clue what is wrong.
