Getting steam running on Slackware64 15.0

HI there i had some troubles when i try to run steam.

But for reduce the mayor part of things i had do, i use the follow commands on terminal :

1 - Slackpkg+

i enable slackpkg+ and enable multilib repository
i download packages from this url
Code:
https://slackware.nl/slackpkgplus15/pkg/
After i go to my docs for Slackware64 14.2, on Spanish [my native language is Spanish]

Index -> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

My own Slackpkg tutorial -> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

2 - System Update & Upgrade :
Code:
sudo su
slackpkg update gpg ; slackpkg update ; slackpkg upgrade-all
3 - Slpkg : i had install slpkg the extra-official package manager for slackware
Code:
slackpkg install python3 python-urllib3 python-setuptools

export SLPKG='slpkg-3.4.3-x86_64-1_dsw.txz' ; wget -c https://sourceforge.net/projects/slpkg/files/binary/"$SLPKG"/download -O "$SLPKG" ; installpkg "$SLPKG" ; ldconfig

ln -s /usr/bin/slpkg /usr/sbin/slpkg

slackpkg install python2 python2-module-collection
slpkg update
slpkg -s sbo python2-pythondialog
slpkg repo-enable
The working repositories from my home are :
Quote:
slack
sbo
alien
slonly
ktown{latest}
multi
salix
rested
msb{1.18}
csb
connos
but i not use "slackl" repository because i don't know if just work with Slackware64-current or Slackware-current. because every package i try to install from there, never work for me.

after i solve missing dependencies for slpkg :
Code:
slpkg -s slonly SQLAlchemy python3-pythondialog
slpkg -s sbo python3-progress-1.6  python3-build
well i need the tool "convertpkg-compat32" that is from the package "compat32-tools"

Code:
slpkg -s multi compat32-tools
4 - Solve deps for Steam :
Code:
slpkg -s slack --reinstall gdb gdbm ; \
slpkg -s slonly --reinstall cgdb zenity ; ldconfig
32 Bits common libraries ( i am thinking i need some more packages but i don't know specific packages i need )

Code:
echo -ne 'y\n' | slpkg -s multi --reinstall aaa_glibc-solibs glibc glibc-i18n glibc-profile libdrm-compat32 libX11-compat32 libXext-compat32 libxcb-compat32 libXau-compat32 llvm-compat32 sdl-compat32 libXtst-compat32 libXfixes-compat32 libXrandr-compat32 libXrender-compat32 libXi-compat32 glib2-compat32 gtk+2-compat32 pipewire-compat32 pulseaudio-compat32 gdk-pixbuf2-compat32 libva-compat32 libvdpau-compat32 bzip2-compat32 libglvnd-compat32 aaa_libraries-compat32 util-linux-compat32 libXinerama-compat32 libXcursor-compat32 pango-compat32 libXcomposite-compat32 libXdamage-compat32 atk-compat32 cairo-compat32 pango-compat32 harfbuzz-compat32 fontconfig-compat32 freetype-compat32 dbus-compat32 libXcursor-compat32 libsndfile-compat32 libasyncns-compat32 pixman-compat32 fribidi-compat32 graphite2-compat32 libxml2-compat32 brotli-compat32 elogind-compat32 flac-compat32 opus-compat32 e2fsprogs-compat32 curl-compat32 openssl-solibs-compat32 openssl-compat32 libunistring-compat32 cyrus-sasl-compat32 mesa-compat32 libXdmcp-compat32 ; ldconfig
i know the packages
Quote:
slpkg -s multi aaa_glibc-solibs glibc glibc-i18n glibc-profile glibc-solibs
are the necesary to run 32 Bits programs.

Quote:
slpkg -s multi gcc gcc-brig gcc-g++ gcc-gdc gcc-gfortran gcc-gnat gcc-go gcc-objc
are necesary to solve dependencies and if you want compile 32 Bits programs from 64 Bits installation. well with this i have some strange issues with old distros of 64 Bits when i make a CrossCompilation, the 32 bits native i had compile using that method does not work on a real 32 Bits env. because programs like "file" says are 32 Bits but from another thing not for x86 or x86_64, the strange was if you do the same from 64 Bits native reports is a 32 Bits native.

5 - Install steam :
Code:
slpkg -s sbo steam ; ldconfig
6 - Trying to run steam :
without runtime :
Code:
STEAM_RUNTIME=0 LC_ALL=C steam
Output :
Quote:
Couldn't import apt, please install python3-apt or update steamdeps for your distribution.

and well, i don't know which thing i need to make it run. on my job i apply the "quick n' dirty" method for multilib / compat32 from slack docs. and on my job steam works, but i want determine just the real packages need for getting steam run without problems.

11 - Well trying another things :
Code:
find ~/.steam/root/ \( -name "libgcc_s.so*" -o -name "libstdc++.so*" -o -name "libxcb.so*" \) -print -delete ; \
find ~/.steam/root/ -name "libstdc++.so*" -print -delete ; \
find ~/.steam/root/ -name "libxcb.so*" -print -delete ; \
find ~/.steam/root/ -name "libgpg-error.so*" -print -delete
steam
output

Reading -> https://github.com/ValveSoftware/ste...ux/issues/4768

i notice the line
Code:
LD_PRELOAD='/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgpg-error.so.0' steam

Code:
locate libstdc++.so.6
Quote:
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.29
/usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6
/usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6.0.29
/usr/share/gdb/auto-load/usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6.0.29-gdb.py
Code:
locate libgpg-error.so.0
Quote:
/boot/initrd-tree/lib64/libgpg-error.so.0
/boot/initrd-tree/lib64/libgpg-error.so.0.32.2
/lib64/libgpg-error.so.0
/lib64/libgpg-error.so.0.32.2
/usr/lib64/libgpg-error.so.0
/usr/lib64/libgpg-error.so.0.32.2
Uhmm well i think is possible the libgpg compat32 package are one of various packages of 32 bits i need

Code:
su -c "slpkg -s multi libgpg-error-compat32 ; ldconfig" root

Trying steam
Code:
LD_PRELOAD='/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6:/lib/libgpg-error.so.0' steam
i prefer use ":" on LD_PRELOAD because works on GNU/Linux and FreeBSD when you need load multiples libraries from absolute or relative paths.

Output :
Quote:
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object '/lib/libgpg-error.so.0' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.

I'm not sure why you have everything whitelisted for slackpkg+. (I can't speak to slpkg, because I don't use it.) For instance I've only got slackware's base, multilib, and alien. I don't know what version of slackware salix is using, but there could be some library incompatibilities between the two. If you aren't running salix, don't use the salix repository. Also, with slackpkg+, did you forget to set multilib under PKGS_PRIORITY in /etc/slackpkgplus.conf?

Right now it looks like you've got a mishmash of libraries from different versions of slackware and a different distro entirely, so I think I'd start with a clean install, and make sure multilib is installed, updated, and running well.

i just add multilib repo for slackpkg+. well by the moment i does not have install nothing for salix repository, well i will go to disable it, because i dont have any use with this version of slackware for me.
Yes i completly forgot, because i practically not use slackpkg+

By the moment i am trying to make
/usr/bin/32/glxgears run normally, under slackware64 14.2 i does not have too much problems too do that.

well for slpkg i just leave enable the follow repositories :
slack
sbo
alien
multi
slonly

Ok this is not working anyway, better i do use the quick n' dirty method,

Code:
sudo su
Contraseña:

cd /tmp
SLACKVER=15.0
mkdir multilib
cd multilib
lftp -c "open http://bear.alienbase.nl/mirrors/people/alien/multilib/ ; mirror -c -e ${SLACKVER}"

Code:

i think its better i restart entire pc. and do the follow

Code:
rm -rf "~/.steam/" ; \
rm -rf "$HOME/.local/share/Steam" ; \
steam

Why didn't you set up Slackware64 15.0 multilib via the normal instructions provided by alienbob and slackdocs

http://www.slackware.com/~alien/multilib/
https://docs.slackware.com/slackware:multilib

and then install Steam from Slackbuilds.org: https://slackbuilds.org/repository/15.0/games/steam/

The whole process you started out with was very weird and convoluted.

The whole process you started out with was very weird and convoluted.
i had started but i distracted with another things, and then i forget the thing i am doing.
after i just want to start steam, i install from sbo using slpkg, but when i try to start, steam ask for 32 bits libs, and well i want to try which packages i need just for that.

But after all effort, i reach to the conclution, you need the minimal Slackware(32) 15.0 with Graphical libs, drivers to run any env desktop, just for steam had the files need to run because are make it on a Ubuntu 12 graphical session, provoking a deps bloat, and well for the user does not need make too much the better way to solve a lots of dependencies on slackware its using "full" installtion and the "quick n' dirty" method for multilib and after remove the packages are not needed by the user by that way the use does not waste too much time trying to solve puntual deps.

and well all of this start because i just want to compile Pefect Dark under Slackware for this repository -> https://github.com/fgsfdsfgs/perfect_dark/

and i want use the "PAL" rom because have the spanish version of game, the precompiled version just work with American NTSC version and just on english. But i can't compile i need 32 Bits libs too and "mips toolchain" to make it.

Well i hope the "quick n' dirty" method solve that.

If you want steam working "quick" then using conty.sh is probably the quickest/easiest to set up: https://github.com/Kron4ek/Conty

Basically the steps are:
1. Download conty.sh (minding the warning about how to set up nvidia cards, if you use one).
2. ./conty.sh steam
3. If you dont like running the above line, create a .desktop file for steam with a similar conty.sh line and have a clickable steam icon on your desktop.

Downside is that the conty.sh "script" is actually a container with everything it needs to run steam/lutris/a few other things, so the whole thing is almost 2GB and contains some redundant packages to the main system.

Upside is that for the cheap cost of ~2GB, there is no fussing to get steam running. Besides, modern games hit like 100GB of storage per game, so the 2GB will not matter much in the long run.

I've been gaming on linux with conty for a couple years now. It's been flawless, except for a few windows only games that just dont run well with steam's proton like Halo Infinite (though to be fair the game runs like shite on windows too...)

Cheers.

Thank you i don't know about that project called conty, is interesting

Ok after use the "Quick n' Dirty" method for multilib / compat32
i use the follow commands in terminal
Code:
rm -rf "~/.steam/" ; \
rm -rf "$HOME/.local/share/Steam" ; \
steam
appears a dialog box, with options "Reinstall" or "Search" steam files, i clic on "Reinstall", start a download of near 500MB, and now Steam start correctly.
