gcc upgrade

I found some bugs in gcc 4.2.1
the bugs are so bad
( it miss read a file and reported errors that aren't in the file )
that I have my doubts that the installed version can build the latest version
so what I need is a pre built gcc package of any version later than 4.2

What's wrong with 4.1.2? It comes with slack after all.

are you sure they aren't in the file, or files that you included with that file?

If you really think it's a compiler bug and you're on Slackware 12.0 you could try installing or building gcc 4.2.3 from current. Otherwise you could try building gcc 4.3.0. I'll probably have a look at doing that soon because gcj 4.3 includes the JDK 1.5 support that I need, particularly on non-x86 architectures.

have you tried doing that?

The installed version will build the latest version and then you can bootstrap it (i.e the newly build version will build itself again using itself as the compiler, so usually there shouldn't be any problems)
