Upgrade from gcc 3.X to gcc 4.0 in Slackware

How do I upgrade from gcc 3.x to gcc 4.0? I'm trying to compile "ndiswrapper-1.16" for my wireless connection to work on my laptop, but when I try to compile, I get errors that say "gcc 3.4 or later required". I've downloaded "gcc-4.0.2.tar" and tried to install, and everything seems ok, but when I compile, it still uses the gcc 3.x ( I'm not sure of the exact version). I'm using Slackware 10. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Have you tried upgrading to gcc-3.4 from Slackware's testing/ directory?

Thanks for the tip. I can't try it out though because I recompiled the kernel and mistakes were made. A friend recommended SUSE over Slack. I'm going to rebuild with that distro. Stay tuned.
