ftp is the easiest

Try the command

$man ftp

or are you looking for an ftp server?

vsFTPd is what you're looking for. It's on CD#1, series n. The man pages are vsftpd and vsftpd.conf. You can enable vsftpd by uncommenting (removing the #) line 28 in /etc/inetd.conf thus:

ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd vsftpd

and restarting the inetd service:

Code:
root@box: /etc/rc.d/rc.inetd restart

It should already be working. Have you tried connecting to it?

If it's not already running, you can try uncommenting one of the ftp options in /etc/inetd.conf. Only one is necessary. Login with your regular account name/passwd.

To edit its internal options (vsftpd), look up /etc/vsftpd.conf.

Another [?]

I have another question =P My linux machine is behind a switch that is behind a router. What i did was opened the one port so i can use SSH to get into it. BUT the problem i was seeing was when i use the WAN address that i can use to get into the box, it then uses port forwarding to get to the switch and then to the linux box. Is there a way around this since ftp uses a different port? =P Maybe i am confusesd. let me know.

Are you saying you're using port 5000 for ssh instead of the default 22? then forwarding it to 22 inside your firewall? I don't see why you would do that, except if you're expecting attacks on that port?

Just open ports 20 and 21 for ftp on your router.

There's no need to port forward 20 for ftp.
