freerock gnome gdm problems

i get gdm started with message window saying:
"conf file contains an invalid command line for login dialog, so running the default command"

even if i change different login dialog style form gdmsetup, always get same ugly one
without shutdown options also

do i have to change slack rc.4 default script?
or what should i do

I don't use gdm, but I think that gdmsetup creates a new conf file called gdm.conf.new in /etc/X11/gdm/. You might try backing up your gdm.conf and replacing it with gdm.conf.new.

If you can't fix it and have KDM installed you could comment out the block which calls gdm in rc.4, and if you don't have kdm, you could fall back to xdm.

i had a similar problem.

somehow it works now, but i cannot change the look of the GDM login screen. It's fine, so i am not so bothered. I guess i am waiting for slackware 11 these days. Running a system with just about everything curret/unstable.....

i solve it...

i just changed a few things in login screen setup under System tools:

set...

Greeter: Local = Themed Geeter (..not to GTK Geether)
..then choose theme

and under Face browser
i added under include: halt and shutdown
..now i can shutdown directly from gnome

every thing works great now...best and fastest linux desktop i ever tryed

hope it helps

bye...
